NEW STANDARD FOR SLAGS USAGE IN ROAD BUILDING
The issue of use of industrial waste products becomes relevant now. That’s why “DerzhdorNDI” SE developed a national standard for technical specifications for rubble materials from metallurgical slag for road construction. Actually, the final version of DSTU had been submitted already to the Ukrainian Research and Training Center for Standardization, Certification and Quality"UAS" for approval.
During the development of the standard it was determined that materials from ferrous metallurgy slag (steel production, blast furnace, copper, etc.) and non-ferrous metallurgy of FeNi production could be used:
• in the form of rubble
• in the form from mixtures without binders or with binders
• during arranging and recovery of layers of non-rigid road pavement
• for reinforcement of roadside verges
In addition, the standard provides:
• revision of the classification of rubble materials containing slag
• clarification of requirements for physico-technical parameters of crushed stones and mixtures
• clarification of methods of control of rubble and mixtures
• determination the area of use of crushed stone materials obtained from metallurgical slag for road construction
• developing safety and environmental protection requirements
• developing marking and transportation requirements
The implementation of this DSTU, and in general, the use of metallurgical slag in the road industry, will contribute to:
• prevention of environmental pollution through the disposal of industrial waste
• will allow saving the material and technical resources, thereby reducing the works cost without reducing the quality of their execution
